Sass Jordan’s Rebel Moon Blues Tops Today’s Album Announcements

Get a taste of the veteran Canadian rock queen's smoking set of blues covers.

Sass Jordan hasn’t put out a solo album in a decade. But the Can-rock queen’s upcoming album Rebel Moon Blues is more than worth the wait. Trust me; I’ve been digging it since I first heard it last year. Full disclosure: I was hired to write some promo material for the disc. But cross my heart and hope to spit, I’d be raving about this sucker either way. It’s just that good. Recorded with her touring band and produced by hubby Derek Sharp (aka D#), Rebel Moon Blues is an eight-song set of blues covers — but not just any blues covers. Instead of just trotting out the usual overworked Muddy and Wolf standards, Jordan digs deeper with a set list that simultaneously celebrates old masters like Willie Dixon, Elmore James and Freddie King along with relatively younger guns like Gary Moore, Rory Gallagher and The Allman Brothers Band. You can get a taste of what’s in store above with the first single Leaving Trunk, which channels Taj Mahal’s searing version of the Sleepy John Estes classic. It sets the tone for the rest of the disc, which arrives in March. Of course, it’s far from the only new album that’s been announced in the past day or two. Scroll down to see the rest of the roster, or zip over to the Upcoming Releases page to see every title on the way this spring.
