Classic Album Review: Dave Quanbury | No Vacancy

The former Tequila Mockingbird guitarist gets in touch with his softer side.

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

HOME BASE: Somewhere on the open road.

GENRE: A boy and his guitar.

REVIEW: Former Tequila Mockingbird guitarist Dave Quanbury gets in touch with his softer side on his first solo full-length No Vacancy. Aided and abetted by a cast of local lights including producer Dan Donahue, bassist Sky Onosson and singer Brandy Zdan, Quanbury applies his throaty croon and gentle strum to a slate of 11 laid-back roots ballads, sprinkled with the occasional dash of hillbilly boogie, jumpy jazz and twangy noir. Find some room for No Vacancy in your CD shelf.
