Aided and abetted by Neil Jam3s, the B.C. singer-songwriter gets down ’n’ dirty on her latest release, a number deeply infused with disco swagger and tailor-made for nights of revelry. As she continues to evolve as an artist, Jaxxee remains dedicated to her mission statement: Create timeless music that feels both fresh and exciting, and pays homage to the great music that came before.
Simultaneously weaving past and present, Jaxxee (real name: Jaclyn Hull) crafts music that blends the classic sounds of blues and soul with a forward-looking vision. Finding a balance at the crossroads between trip-hop and funk, her moody, sultry vocals are commanding, evocative and timeless. Hailing from Victoria, B.C., Jaxxee’s musical journey began later in life. A self-taught musician, she is inspired by powerhouses Donna Summer, Aretha Franklin and Erykah Badu, in addition to the sounds of Portishead, En Vogue and The Black Pumas.
In 2018, Jaxxee joined forces with powerhouse Electric Timber Co., a local folk-rock group known for bold collaborations. With Jaxxee’s songbird aura front and centre, the group flourished at area venues and festivals, sharing the stage with Harry Manx, Shaun Verrault, Kendal Carson, members of The Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer and more.
Amid the challenges of the pandemic, Jaxxee seized the opportunity to embark on a new solo project. In 2023 she released her debut single Gone, followed up by the treack So Tired. Gone, a poignant exploration of healing from past trauma, was accompanied by a visually stunning video that underscored themes of generational resilience, costarring her daughter Maddox. So Tired delved into the exhaustion wrought by the demands of modern life, resonating on a deeply relatable level. Both offerings, marked by powerful vocals and dark groove-infused sounds, garnered national acclaim.
