Classic Album Review: Dio | Stand Up And Shout: The Anthology

From Elf and Rainbow to Sabbath and Dio, this two-disc best-of covers all the bases.

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

THE ORIGINAL RELEASE DATES: 1972-1994.

THE BACK STORY: Over the decades, metal munchkin Ronnie James Dio fronted Elf, Blackmore’s Rainbow and Black Sabbath along with his own eponymous outfit. The two-disc Stand Up and Shout is the first best-of to cover all the bases.

THE GOODIES: Old Elf boogie-rockers like Hoochie Koochie Lady; Rainbow gems like Starstruck; Black Sabbath hits like Neon Knights and Mob Rules; and Dio faves like Holy Diver, Last In Line and We Rock.

THE EXTRAS: Cardboard slipcase, double-gatefold digipak, booklet with loads of pix, liner notes and anecdotes. In a nutshell, plenty for Dio fans to dhout about.
