Classic Album Review: Mountain | Mystic Fire

You won’t find anything here to rival Mississippi Queen, if you know what I mean.

This came out in 2002 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

“I am immortal,” growls guitarist Leslie West. I’m starting to take him at his word.

Like some horror-movie beast that comes back stronger every time you think he’s down for the count, West and drummer Corky Laing — combined age: 110 years — are back with yet another batch of crunching blues-metal and ’80s-style guitar-rock. Sure, it’s not bad for two guys who almost qualify for senior discounts, but you won’t find anything here to rival Mississippi Queen, if you know what I mean.
