Late-Night TV Music (Even the Score Edition) | Feb. 25, 2020

Nathaniel Rateliff, Dustin Lynch and PJ Morton bring some balance to the airwaves.

It’s always nice when things work out. Take this week’s televised musical appearances. Monday night brought us a slate of female-centric performances. So naturally, as is the way of such things, Tuesday evened the score by delivering a roster of male artists. Best of the bunch for my money was singer-songwriter Nathaniel Rateliff, putting his Night Sweats on hold for a moment to perform the tenderly powerful acoustic number Time Stands on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Of course, those who prefer to have their music emanating from underneath a big hat might prefer country boy Dustin Lynch, who served up a two-fer of Momma’s House and Ridin’ Roads on Jimmy Kimmel Live. And finally, Maroon 5 keyboardist and recent Grammy winner PJ Morton got groovy with his song Ready on The Kelly Clarkson Show. Yeah, I know Clarkson’s show isn’t technically late-night programming. But I watched it late at night. And it’s my site, so I’m allowed to bend the rules a little. After all, these things don’t always work out on their own.
