Classic Album Review: Various Artists | Rock Against Bush Vol. 1

Fat Mick Burkett masterminds this two-disc set of anti-W political punk salvos.

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Politics makes for enraged bedfellows. At least, it does on the rabble-rousing punk compilation Rock Against Bush Vol. 1.

Following in the footsteps of classic ’80s comps like Let Them Eat Jellybeans, this two-disc set masterminded by NOFX frontman and Fat Wreck Chords founder Fat Mike Burkett delivers plenty of bang for the buck, with 26 Bush-bashing cuts from a wide assortment of acts — the Middle Eastern skate-punk of Offspring’s Baghdad, the artful emo-pop of The Get Up KidsLion And The Lamb, the industrio-metal bombast of Ministry’s No W, the ska-punk of Descendents Sad State of Affairs, and even the snot-punk of Canucks Sum 41. Toss in a DVD of documentary footage, music videos and anti-Dubya commercials, and you’ve got a set that earns your vote.
