Madam Who? Cranks Up The Peter Meter

The Maryland multi-talent works her mischievious magic in her latest single & video.

Madam Who? teaches you how to feed the Peter Meter in her hilariously cheeky new single and video — showcasing today on Tinnitist.

The mischievous Maryland singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist’s latest release laughingly lampoons the agony-aunt archetype with a catchy synthesis of electro-clash, pop, rock and rap. The anthem of liberation and empowerment was two decades in the making and is inspired by the wisdom of Madam Who?’s Grandma Rita and her unique approach to boy troubles.

“The single was inspired by something my wealthy grandmother said to me before my freshman year at college in Nashville,” Madam Who? recalls. “In her Scarlett O’Hara-esque southern accent, she said, ‘I been outta the datin’ pool for some time now… and I was just wond’rin’… do bowyees still requiya that you have sex with them?’

“When I came up with the pre-chorus and super-hooky chorus, I knew I had something really special, but it took me 20 years, on and off, to find the right verses. Last year, I joined a songwriter’s workshop group and the leader, Marissa Levy, helped to push me in the right direction, sparking something in me; with her input, it all fell into place quickly.”

The result: A flood of raw apologetic energy, channelled into a stream of alt-’90s nostalgia complete with a Garbage-style chorus and hints of The B-52’s — all the better to add even more eccentricity to a track that keeps pulling you in with every progression.

The track features Emily Davies on bass and the expert mixing of Animal Farm Music, and comes accompanied by a video from Dave Messick (Unscene Production). Peter Meter is the third single from Madam Who?’s self-titled four-track EP, and sets the stage for the upcoming LLAP (Live Long and Prosper) single.

Madam Who? is no stranger to that. The genre-fluid indie-rocker has been through the wringer — including a bout with brain cancer — but came out the other side writing inspiring pop anthems for underdogs. In her quirky melodies, you’ll hear everyone from The Beatles to Beastie Boys, but it’s her insightful and fun lyrics that truly get stuck in your head.

Before making waves as a solo artist, Madam Who? — born Audra Coldiron — pursued rock stardom with her bands Merry Madness and Audra & The Antidote. One of the latter’s hits prompted Jimmy Iovine to invite the band to L.A. to share the stage with Creed and Godsmack on his TV show FarmClub. Audra & The Antidote also worked their way into the top 10 artists list curated by the New Music Awards.
