If you haven’t heard Southern rock troublemakers Drive-By Truckers, pick up any one of their CDs — I promise you won’t be disappointed.
If you haven’t seen Drive-By Truckers live, pick up this superlative DVD. Recorded last summer in a tiny Georgia club packed with devoted fans, this stylishly directed set finds the band — whose three guitarists are all equally talented singers, songwriters and players — tearing through nearly two dozen slices of their intensely earthy roots-rock. Most are from their latest disc The Dirty South, but older fans get a few goodies like The Living Bubba, one of the finest songs ever written about the life-sustaining power of rock. Naturally, their encore includes a classic-rock cover. Nope, not Freebird — it’s Jim Carroll’s People Who Died. Like I said: Troublemakers.
