Classic Album Review: Low | The Great Destroyer

This came out in 2005 — or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Lush is the new minimal.

Duluth slowcore icons Low make their biggest, boldest, most (relatively) accessible album to date. This seventh full-length finds them upgrading their haunting narcolepsy with guitars that growl, simmering beats that could wake the kids, vocals that rise above a whisper — and expansive, ethereal soundscapery from Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev producer David Fridmann. Great ain’t the half of it.
