The Veer Union deliver a hard dose of unvarnished truth on their walloping and intense new single Empirical — showcasing on Tinnitist.
The latest release from the veteran Vancouver power trio — and a preview of their upcoming album Welcome To Dystopia — Empirical pulls no punches lyrically or musically. Kicking off with melodic vocals layered over gritty vulcanized guitars, the song quickly explodes into a white-hot supernova of alt-metal power and precision, surging forward on a thunderous tempo-shifting beat as the track sears — and as frontman Crispin Earl poetically prophesizes, probes and pleads for some organic truth and authenticity in our world of technological lies:
“Freedom is gone
We live in Illusions
Lives have been give to this lie we’ve been living through
We’re not OK
We’re not all right
Drowned by dagger in this light…
Scrape to spark, then we ignite
“Heaven help us find a miracle
Something that’s empirical
Help this world to mend
Every day becomes more critical
We’re lost within the cynical
Make this nightmare end.”
The band add: “As we face innovation and the rapid advancement of technology, we in The Veer Union retain a profound sense of hope that humanity unites in its pursuit of freedom and individualism, continuing to champion the spirit that drives us to overcome challenges and strive for a brighter future.”
They’ve been on that path for some time now. Earl and his bandmates released their first album independently in 2006. They landed a record deal with Universal in 2008 and garnered their first Top 10 single with their critically acclaimed song Seasons. Since then The Veer Union have sold over 200,000 albums, garnered more than 180 million streams worldwide, placed 12 Top 40 singles on the Billboard Rock Radio Charts, and earned over 10 million video views.
Their next full-length Welcome To Dystopia will contain all-new material that will once again be a breath of new life with a redefined sound. The album is slated to be released in time for Christmas, and fans can expect plenty of sonic, stylistic and lyrical twists and turns.
