Classic Album Review: David Bowie | Diamond Dogs: 30th Anniversary

The Thin White Duke's transitional 1974 album returns with some sorta-rarities.

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Like its precursors Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane, this reissue of The Thin White Duke’s transitional 1974 album features refurbished sound, somewhat spiffy packaging and a disc of rarities.

HITS: The title cut; Rebel, Rebel; 1984.

MISSES: The packaging is slightly cheaper — and the rarities a little less rare — than the previous reissues.

EXTRAS: Demos from a proposed 1984 musical; re-edited versions of the singles from radio and K-Tel albums; the Rebel, Rebel remake from the Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle soundtrack; and an unexpectedly straight cover of Bruce Springsteen’s Growin’ Up.
