Classic Album Review: Jolie Holland | Escondida

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Part Gillian Welch, part Rickie Lee Jones and wholly bewitching, former Be Good Tanyas member Jolie Holland inhabits a timeless, self-spun musical netherworld hovering between rustic Americana, jazzy Tin Pan Alley balladry and woozy alt-folk dreamscapes. She may call it Escondida. You are more likely to call it unforgettable.
