Semaj Dee Tells You About His Dreams

The London artist blends soul and hip-hop on his latest track.

Semaj Dee welcomes Georgia Anne Muldrow and Wakai to his Dreams on his new single — showcasing today on Tinnitist.

Blending soul and rap, the London artist’s new track is a standout track that reflects the multitude of Semaj’s musical influences. “Dreams is a concept that Georgia initially devised in 2018 after our first meeting where she nicknamed me Baby Stevie,” he says. “Around the time we met, I was working on some demos… and I selected one for her to redevelop. The initial demo was of a different genre but she completely transformed the feel and mood of the production. In Georgia’s own words: ‘I wanted to go for a suspended feeling like when you really can’t believe something so good is happening yet!’

“If you listen to the first 20 seconds of the song, you can hear a snippet of the original demo interwoven in the production. In 2021, a producer on social media connected with me and he asked L.A. rapper Wakai to feature on the track after I had shared the song with him. He agreed and the rest is history!”

Semaj has been involved in music since age nine. During his school years in South London, he trained as a classical musician, playing the clarinet for a symphonic band. At 16, he made the transition to gospel music and performed in church choirs before forming his own live band. Then in 2012, he co-founded the electronic/soul duo Sallok and James. They released their EP Beautiful and performed at many live events across London. In 2017 he joined the Motown tribute band Imperial Grooves as lead vocalist.
