THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “Sahra Halgan is an iconic artist from Somaliland, a country in the Horn of Africa that has been independent since 1991, but not recognized by the international community.
It was during the ’80s, while engaged in the terrible war against the dictatorship, that she received the nickname “Halgan” (Fighter), and that her songs forever won the hearts of an entire people. Exiled in France, it was in Lyon that she founded her group with Aymeric Krol, Maël Salètes and Régis Monte.
Her third album is the fruit of a sincere search for authenticity and innovation, of an unprecedented alliance between Somali song and original rock, thus enriching with his inspiration the most unexpected landscapes of the world sound system. It’s called Hiddo Dhawr (Preserve Culture), also the name of the cultural center that Sahra founded in 2013 in Hargeisa.”
