Classic Album Review: Various Artists | Punk-O-Rama 8

The punk-rock compilation series stays true to form(ula) on its eighth installment.

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Another year, another Punk-O-Rama collection. And after eight of these suckers, the folks over at Epitaph have the formula down to, well, a formula. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)

First, start with a mittful of cool cuts from recent releases and past classics — everything from The DistillersI Am A Revenant and Turbonegro’s Train Of Flesh to Rancid’s As Wicked and Bad Religion’s Who We Are. Then add a heaping helping of new material and bonus cuts — like a track from the new NOFX album, a cut from the upcoming Pennywise disc, a remix of The TransplantsQuick Death and a Death By Stereo video, to name a few. Finally, once you’ve overstuffed the whole affair like a holiday turkey — this set has 32 tracks on two CDs — knock a few bucks off the price to create one of the best deals around. How do they do it? Volume.
