Classic Album Review: Hot Hot Heat | Scenes One Through Thirteen Reissue

The Victoria indie popsters display a different singer & sound on this debut album.

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

THE ORIGINAL RELEASE DATE: 2000.

THE BACK STORY: Before they became Canadian indie-pop’s Next Big Thing, these Victoria boys had a different singer and sound, as displayed on this noisy, synth-based debut album.

THE GOODIES: Former vocalist Matthew Marnik’s frantic yelp is the star of these 13 angular, anxious cuts.

THE BONUS: That they were savvy enough to evolve into the band they are today.
