Classic Album Review: The Jayhawks | Blue Earth Reissue

The Minneapolis alt-country combo channel Gram Parsons on their sophomore set.

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

THE ORIGINAL RELEASE DATE: 1989.

THE BACK STORY: This seminal alt-country combo from Minneapolis are often compared to CSN, but on Blue Earth — the band’s second disc — their sound is closer to the cosmic country soul of Gram Parsons and his Flying Burrito Brothers.

THE GOODIES: Pick a track, any track; you’re almost guaranteed to experience one of the finest Americana numbers you’ve never heard.

THE EXTRAS: The 12-song original album is augmented by a trio of previously unheard demos.
