Tinnitist TV | Episode 91: Greg Norton Of UltraBomb & Hüsker Dü

The veteran bassist discusses power trios, moustaches, health scares and more.

Greg Norton loves a power trio. And with good reason; he’s been in a couple of great ones.

First and foremost, of course, he was the bassist in the legendary Minneapolis outfit Hüsker Dü, who redefined punk in the ’80s with the supersonic sound of albums like Zen Arcade and New Day Rising (and just unearthed the vintage live recording Tonite Longhorn). If you miss them, well, here’s good news: Norton’s new power trio UltraBomb — an “international punk supergroup” co-starring guitarist Finny McConnell of The Mahones and drummer Jamie Oliver of UK Subs — just released an album called Time To Burn that recalls the blazing intensity of Norton’s old band. Even more impressive: They wrote and recorded it all in less than a week. While getting ready to head back out on tour with UltraBomb, Norton Zoomed in from his Minnesota home to talk about working on the fly, a recent health crisis, his culinary tastes, having the greatest moustache in rock and plenty more. Enjoy.
