Erin Côté shows off multiple sides of her soulful personality on her boldly unfiltered single Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and her audacious EP Cheeky Saint — showcasing today on Tinnitist.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend spotlights the Vancouver singer-songwriter’s commanding vocals and cutting wit, as she croons “I wasn’t crazy until you showed me how / Now psycho is all that I know” overtop a backing track that marries orch-pop and neo-soul. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has a haunting, edgy vibe with echoes of Amy Winehouse.
Meanwhile, each song on her Cheeky Saint EP sits in its own niche, taking you somewhere different with each song. Stranger On The Skytrain is friendly, upbeat pop fun, inviting and hopeful, and laced with jazzy backup vocals. She wrote it after years of making quick and effortless yet incredibly meaningful connections with strangers on the Skytrain. Diamonds And Gold is heavy, touching on greed and how we can lose ourselves in it. Moon Madness is about the one who got away — someone Erin loved but couldn’t commit to because of youth and lack of experience.
Erin was born in Vancouver and studied musical theatre at Capilano University. She wishes to inspire people, comfort them, and break walls down between people with her music. Singing and songwriting are two of her greatest passions. Erin also works as an actress in film and theatre, and as a dancer through performance and choreography.
