Now Hear This: Gut Health | Electric Party Chrome Girl

Australian art-punks channel New York No Wave on their angular, energized debut EP.

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “One of 2022’s most compelling underground acts, Gut Health do not disappoint with their first recorded material Electric Party Chrome Girl. Having cut their teeth supporting a host of Melbourne’s best since their emergence in late 2021, the Naarm/Melbourne five-piece have built a reputation for their powerful live performances; an incorporation of experimental linear movements, danceable art-pop/post-punk and unfiltered theatrics.

Encompassing varied sonic backgrounds from punk to jazz, and influenced by queer rave culture, their current members — Athina Uh Oh, Adam Markmann, Dom Willmott, Eloise Murphy-Hill and Myka Wallace — work to creatively merge these worlds together to birth a unique sound which mirrors the ethos of New York’s No Wave revolution.

Bringing an LGBTQI+, femme, and non-binary heavy lineup to the front of the stage, Gut Health are brazen in their message of self-expression. Staunchly encouraging the healing qualities of consensual rage and the visceral powers of the dance floor, they uphold a mentality that allows a cross pollination of communities to dance with one another.

Emphasising a relentless driving rhythm section backed by sharp, angular guitars and accompanying synthesisers, brought home by the effervescent melodies of front person Uh Oh, Gut Health create a powerful live performance categorised by its messages, tongue-in-cheek delivery, joyous groove and a definitive precision in it’s tight execution.

Maintaining the DIY spirit of their heroes, they self-recorded Electric Party Chrome Girl inside a storage facility in the heart of Brunswick. The EP was mixed and mastered by Simon Maisch (Bitumen, OV PAIN, Telekninet, EYESØRES) just a few storage units down the hall.”
