Classic DVD Review: Madonna | The Drowned World Tour

The Material Girl documents her first tour in eight year with a strong hometown set.

This came out in 2001 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

The Main Course: A re-edited version of the two-hour concert broadcast on HBO this fall from Madonna’s Detroit hometown.

Side Dishes: Well, you could probably call the re-edited bits new footage; and there’s a photo gallery with the usual assortment of exclusive, saucy pics of Madge.

Easter Eggs: Madonna has never one who leaves much to the imagination.

Final Verdict: This was her first tour in eight years, and Music was her best album in about as long. So even though the gig isn’t exactly mind-blowing — the Matrix-style wire-work probably looks way cooler in person than on your TV — the set has enough hits to make it a decent historical document.
