Classic DVD Review: Various Artists | America: A Tribute to Heroes

The Boss, Neil Young, Tom Petty & many more raise funds for victims of 9/11.

This came out in 2001 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

The Main Course: The complete, two-hour, star-studded telethon that aired Sept. 21 to raise money for victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in the U.S.

Side Dishes: Hey, you’ve already got Bruce Springsteen doing the unreleased My City of Ruin, Neil Young covering Imagine, Tom Petty’s defiant I Won’t Back Down, and Willie Nelson leading a singalong on America the Beautiful. Asking for more would be rude.

Easter Eggs: See above.

Final Verdict: Great songs, and since profits go to charity, it’s also for a good cause. Kinda fits right in with the whole holiday spirit thing, no?
