Sarah Wickett’s sound takes on an exotic new Accent for her latest single — premiering exclusively on Tinnitist.
Written and recorded with Rahul Bains, Accent seamlessly and subtly fuses Wickett’s winsome country-pop with Desi melodies and grooves to fashion an irresistible and intriguing hybrid of sounds. Let’s call it Country and Eastern.
“He and I met at the beginning of the summer,” Wickett explains. “I told him about my idea for this song and he was instantly super-stoked to be a part of it! We wrote the Punjabi parts of this song together … I remember the day we recorded vocals. We were trippppping because Rahul killed it and brought SO much to this song. I’m so grateful to be working with such talented people and super-excited to see this song finally come to life.”
Speaking of life: Country sweetheart Wickett has been immersed in music since she was born. Raised in Beaverton, Ont., her time spent, hunting, fishing and watching sunsets on the water was intertwined with a distinctly musical upbringing, surrounded by a family who shared her passion. Her small-town roots inspired her songwriting as she was growing up, while artists like Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood and Christina Aguilera helped to shape her sound and feed her creativity.
Now just 25, Sarah has been singing for 14 years, playing guitar for eight and performing her original material at live venues since 2014. She has opened for famous names ranging from Bobby Wills to Wes Mack, and performed for full-house crowds at The Opera House, Casino Rama and at fairs and festivals all across Ontario, including the Smoke & Spurs Festival and Kempenfest. Sarah has also been a featured artist at Canadian Music Week and was showcased at the 2017 Canadian Country Music Awards. For an up-and-coming artist, Sarah has done an impressive job at capturing the likes of country music fans all over the world with over 100,000 fans across social media.
She recently released the singles Did It For Me and Friday Night In. Her compelling sound and vocal performances have garnered Sarah notable recognition, earning her televised performances and media attention. She was named the CMAO’s July artist of the month. Currently, Sarah is in the studio finishing up her sophomore EP. Her sound has evolved from sweet country into a compelling, rockier combo infusion of pop, R&B and more.
