What’s that on the horizon? Damn, it’s another Bandcamp Friday. And it’s heading right for us! There’s only one thing to do: Try to get ahead of it. Here are some of the early birds hoping to worm a few bucks out of you tomorrow:
Primative Ring | Poisonous Gift / TV City
THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “Primitive Ring consists of Bert Hoover (Hoover III, Groop), Jon Modaff (JModaff, Hoover III, Groop), and Charles Moothart (Fuzz, GØGGS). The three L.A. musicians found each other in a collective state of high-functioning de-evolution, and collectively agreed to bend the knee to the primal instincts of melody and rhythm. Primitive Ring started when the three members realized their worlds were organically converging. Seeking a new well to pitch the mental bucket in search of creative fluidity, the choice became obvious: start a new band. “Bring in the new” is not to say “Out with the old”. It is to continue the story and elaborate on the plot. A band of three individuals (ring) tapping in to their collective sound (ring) to form a solid bond (ring) in which to burn away superfluous modernity (ring). Rock ’n’ roll is for everyone and belongs to no one.”
Bar-B-Q Killers | Part 1: The Last Shit
THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “Part I: The Last Shit is the band’s very first studio session at legendary John Keane’s studio in 1986. While one track (Chester Drawers) was included on the impossible-to-find Some EP (on DRG, David Barbe and Alan Conner’s label), the other two tracks have never been officially released. Until now. Everything has been polished up real nice by Sir Barbe and Jason NeSmith, and for the first time in almost four decades, Bar-B-Q Killers are ready to be heard again.”
M(h)aol | DM:AM
THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “Something Soft, the second full-length album by Irish post-punk firebrands M(h)aol, is anything but. From the first note of its propulsive opening track to the distorted cries of its last, Something Soft feels antagonistic to the very concept of softness, sonically and thematically, taking an unapologetic approach to intersectional feminism, animal welfare, consumerism, and the struggle to find a place in a world lacking in empathy. What M(h)aol offers is catharsis, in two forms: the kind you get from being open with others, and the kind you get from righteously smashing some shit up.”
Charles Moothart / CFM | Chaotic Shimmer
THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “Charles Frances Moothart is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter. He is best known for his collaborations with the garage rock musicians Ty Segall and Mikal Cronin. Moothart is the drummer for Segall’s Freedom Band, and plays in Primative Ring (see above). Moothart will be touring the U.K. in March and, to commemorate the occasion, he has released a special limited-edition six-song 12”. Six brand-new bangers that are exclusive to this release.”
Jimi Tenor | Summer Of Synesthesia
THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “Embark on a funky synth-drenched journey as the cosmic count Jimi Tenor reunites with soul architects Cold Diamond & Mink for yet another album. When placed side by side with the fellows’ recent effort Is There Love In Outer Space?, July Blue Skies glides on a slightly more raw and mystical plane. Crafted over fiery sessions between the trio, this vinyl release offers six soul-grasping tracks ranging from mellow groove to soundtrack funk. The album’s opening title song kicks off with an extended analog synth intro which eventually develops into a sweet romantic invocation, painting a sonic canvas reminiscent of a boundless summer sky. This album might be just the spring jam that you needed in your life.”
