My Forgetfulness Tops Today’s Album Announcements

I totally blanked on including Flaming Lips' American Head last time. Sorry.

Nobody’s perfect. And clearly, I’m not even close. Somewhere between reviewing a couple of dozen albums and compiling more than 60 singles and videos into a roundup last Friday, I totally forgot to include Flaming Lips’ upcoming disc American Head in the album-announcement post. Sorry about that. But hey, better late than never, right?

Here’s what Lips leader Wayne Coyne has to say about the disc: “The music and songs that make up the American Head album are based in a feeling. A feeling that, I think, can only be expressed through music and songs. We were, while creating it, trying to NOT hear it as sounds… but to feel it. Mother’s sacrifice, Father’s intensity, Brother’s insanity, Sister’s rebellion… I can’t quite put it into words.” But I’m sure he’ll take some drugs and give it a try. Coincidentally, that also happens to be how I plan to approach the album. As you may already know, the disc will include the track My Religion Is You, which you can see above. After you do that, scroll down to check out the rest of the new fare announced over the past couple of days — including Beyonce’s new “visual album,” a slew of Spoon reissues, a long-lost Johnny Cash live set and a split from incredibly strange bedfellows Frank Turner and NOFX. And don’t forget to visit the Upcoming Releases page to see everything on the way in one swell foop. (And just for the record, no, I didn’t forget to include Kanye West’s just-announced God’s Country; it’s not on the list because he hasn’t shared a release date. And even if he had, it would be pretty meaningless, based on past experience.)
