Classic Album Review: Collective Soul | Youth

The veteran pop-rockers offer The Thin White Duke the sincerest form of flattery.

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Far as I know, Ed Roland and Collective Soul didn’t start out as a David Bowie tribute band.

But it sure seems like that’s how they’re going to end up, if this slate of polished post-glam guitar rockers and low-register crooning is anything to go by. Granted, these 11 cuts are catchier and rockier than much of The Thin White Duke’s recent output. But that still doesn’t keep Youth from seeming like the sincerest form of flattery.
