This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
Humility and restraint are rare in rock. But they appear to be Half Court Prayer’s stock in trade on Like, Pretty O.K.
From their hopeful name and softpedalled album title and label to their subtle songcraft, this vaguely retro, slightly slackerish alt-pop trio understand the value of understatement. Instead of bashing you over the head, the winsome melodies, shambling Pavementy grooves and Mick Jagger-meets-Ray Davies vocals of these 14 smartly penned tracks sneak up and insinuate themselves into your synapses. It’s far better than just OK.
