This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
Jangly arpeggios and crunchy chords. Spry beats and loping grooves. Rich melodies and lush harmonies. They’re all standard components in the retro-power pop blueprint.
England’s The Contrast, in contrast, build a better mouse trap by accessorizing it with throaty Elvis Costello-ish vocals and earthy R.E.M.-style roots-rock. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear the world beating a path to their door.
