Classic Album Review: Sparta | Porcelain

Meet the guys who came out on the bottom of the At the Drive-In split.

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Just as it is in marriage, in nearly every band breakup there’s a winner and a loser.

Meet the guys who came out on the bottom of the At the Drive-In split. And perhaps with good reason — if the spiky guitars, keening vocals and other emo cliches on display on this forgettable disc were all these guys contributed to ATDI, it’s no wonder Cedric and Omar fled for the far superior Mars Volta. Here’s hoping the Spartans got visitation rights to the afros.
