Alejandro Escovedo’s Echo Dancing Tops A Massive List Of Upcoming Albums

The Texas singer-guitarist returns this spring — along with plenty of company.

Sometimes this gig can give you whiplash. We all just spent the better part of a month looking back at everything that happened in 2023. Now, less than two weeks into the new year, we’ve already got hundreds of upcoming albums to look forward to — including more than 70 new additions to the list today.

Of course, not all upcoming albums are created equal. There are some things I naturally look forward to more than others — and few things I await more eagerly than a new release from Alejandro Escovedo. So I am happy to report that the criminally underappreciated Texas singer-guitarist has just announced that Echo Dancing, his first new album in five years, arrives this spring. Ironically, it finds Escovedo moving forward by looking backward, revamping and updating a slate of previously recorded songs.

“I always feel that a well-written song can withstand a lot of abuse,” he says. “Turning a past song inside out leads to discovery of new ideas you might not have understood about the song. Even lyrical refurbishing has proven helpful and effective. It’s like interpreting your own work anew. The songs never seem to be complete. They are always evolving.”

Check out the album’s first single — a dusty blues-funk take on his 1992 roots ballad Bury Me, originally from his first solo album Gravity — below. Then peruse the rest of today’s announcements, including titles from Daniel Romano, Gentle Giant, Secret Sisters, Shabazz Palaces and plenty more. And don’t forget to visit the Upcoming Releases page regularly to see all the music worth looking forward to in 2024.
