Classic DVD Review: Rush | Rush In Rio

A bonkers Brazilian crowd elevates the prog power-trio's live DVD to another level.

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

The coolest and most exciting thing about this live set from legendary Canadian prog-rock power-trio Rush?

Believe it or not, it isn’t the awesome precision and impressive prowess they effortlessly display throughout this superb three-hour live set. It isn’t the hidden Easter Egg footage of the long-haired lads cranking out Anthem circa 1975. It isn’t even the illuminating documentary disc that reveals guitarist Alex Lifeson’s twisted sense of humour. No, the coolest part about Rush In Rio is watching about 40,000 Brazilians go absolutely bonkers and sing along with nearly every note of every song — including instrumentals like YYZ.
