Jennarie Proudly, Soulfully Proclaims: My Body Treats Me Better

The Toronto popster unveils an upbeat anthem to self-love and personal positivity.

Jennarie loves herself just as she is in her debut single My Body Treats Me Better — showcasing today on Tinnitist.

The emerging Canadian popster’s coming-out party is a funky, upbeat, body-positive anthem defined by soulful, soaring vocals reminiscent of Amy Winehouse and Lady Gaga. The electric track is packed to the brim with good energy, heartfelt lyrics, and a strong, positive message that speaks to the power of self-love and finding beauty in one’s own individuality:

“When I was young, I used to think that I had to wait
Wait for someone to give me permission to take up a little space
When I was young, I always thought that I had to lose
Shrink the parts of my body that people said always took up too much room
If I could speak to her
To the younger me
If we could have just a moment together I’d tell her of everything
 ‘Cause I know my worth
And now I’m free
So when they show up with hate
Tell them the truth, repeat after me, woh!
My body treats me better than they could ever imagine.”

My Body Treats Me Better is a funky pop anthem I wrote about body liberation, self-love, unlearning harmful societal scripts and liberating ourselves from self-loathing and insecurity,” Jennarie explains. “It’s the perfect feel-good bop and features real instruments, including saxophone, guitar, bass, electric piano and drums. The music and the message are the perfect pick-me-up for any time of day, and the retro pop vibe is sure to catch the ears of anyone who listens.”

Although she was born in Montreal, Jennarie first cut her teeth in the Toronto music scene, showcasing her powerful stage presence all over town. She’s continued to make waves and build a strong name. With My Body Treats Me Better — produced by Nick Tateishi (Francois Klark, Clerel and Kiki Rowe) — she is ready to take her career to the next level.
