Classic Album Review: Justin Guarini | Justin Guarini

The AmIdol runnerup offers second-rate neo-soul and laughable hip-hop balladry.

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

It’s bad enough I had to waste 45 minutes of my life sitting through American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson’s album a few months back. But asking me to toss away another 50 minutes on an even-more-disposable collection of second-rate neo-soul and laughable hip-hop balladry from corkscrew-haired runnerup Justin Guarini is really pushing it.

Yeah, yeah, I know — he’s cute and talented and a great singer and he almost won and he’s even in a movie with Kelly and everything. Whatever. Whatsherface from Survivor was in a movie too. Face facts, Justin — your 15 minutes are about up. Time to get a haircut and a real job.
