Classic Album Review: Ikara Colt | Basic Instructions EP

The U.K. outfit share strangely dancable, tensly spiky and itchily noisy post-punk.

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

You want basic instructions? OK, here they are:

1) Purchase five-song EP from CD store or Internet.
2) Remove wrapper.
3) Insert disc in CD player or computer.
4) Push Play.
5) Enjoy catchy new slices of strangely dancable, tensly spiky and itchily noisy post-punk influenced by Wire, The Fall and Gang of Four, along with an electro-clashy revamp of May B 1 Day, from last year’s impressive debut album Chat and Business.
6) When music ends, watch May B 1 Day video.
7) Repeat as necessary.
8) When tired of Basic Instructions, return to CD shop or Internet to purchase the U.K. band’s previous album.
9) Enjoy.
