Classic DVD Review: Norah Jones | Live In New Orleans

The smoky jazz-pop phenom offers an intimate performance from The Big Easy.

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

In little over a year, smoky jazz-pop singer-pianist Norah Jones went from playing coffeehouses to sweeping the Grammys.

As a result, it could be quite some time before she goes back to playing the sort of shows captured in Live In New Orleans — an intimate hour-long gig taped at The House Of Blues in the Big Easy last fall. The 15-song set sees Jones and her Very Handsome Band strolling relaxedly through most of the tunes on her breakthrough debut album Come Away With Me, along with a few foreign-released cuts, a cover of The Band’s Bessie Smith and a gorgeous encore of Tennessee Waltz. Don’t know why any fan wouldn’t enjoy it.
