Classic Album Review: April Wine | Greatest Hits Live 2003

The Canadian rock veterans give the people what they want on this double-live set.

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Say what you will about April Wine, but know this: They get it. They know who their fans are. They know what they want. They know what they don’t want. And what those fans definitely don’t want — especially not at a live show — is a whole bunch of new material.

So, rather than waste everybody’s time and money, April Wine have delivered what their people want: A high-energy, two-disc live set of 21 of their greatest hits, from lotto-ad theme Oowatanite and oldies like Weeping Widow to air-guitar mainstays like I Like To Rock and Roller to covers like Bad Side Of The Moon and 21st Century Schizoid Man. Granted, Drop Your Guns, You Could Have Been A Lady and a few other classics are notably absent, but at least there are only two new studio tracks you have to skip over. April Wine will suerely return to town shortly. I hear they like to rock.
