As you might expect, I have watched hundreds — hell, maybe thousands — of music movies over the decades. Rock musicals, documentaries, concert films, parodies; you name it, I’ve seen it. With one exception: Until this past weekend, I hadn’t seen Hedwig And The Angry Inch. I have no idea why — especially since it was filmed in Canada and the credits include at least two people I know personally. Anyway, I finally sat down and watched it. Then I watched it again. Now I’ve got Tear Me Down (and a few other songs) permanently lodged in my brain. Serves me right for being so goddamn slow. Thankfully, you don’t have to wait 20 years to get up to speed on these 54 singles, videos, cover tunes, remixes and unearthed treasures — including plenty you won’t find anywhere else.
