Amo Jr. is an open book on his soulful new single and video Emotions — showcasing today on Tinnitist.
Characterized by smooth vocals and heartfelt lyrics, the Hamburg-based singer-songwriter and guitarist’s latest single takes you on a moving journey of healing, forgiveness, and self-acceptance. Not bad for a song that was written almost instantaneously in the studio — and wasn’t even a song Amo Jr. planned on recording.
“Actually, I wanted to release a completely different song — a dance track,” Amo Jr. says. “But the video creator I urgently wanted to work with didn’t feel that song. So I sent him a couple of other songs and he picked Emotions.”
Amo Jr.’s unique songwriting style incorporates folk, blues and pop music influences, topped by his vulnerable vocal and lyrical approach. The result is often atypically subtle and affecting. His musical charisma undoubtedly lies in his nonchalant honesty and fearless expression, as he shares his personal struggles and triumphs and offers encouragement to the listeners.
Fidelis Amo-Antwi, aka Pap C, aka Bursty Burst and currently resurrected as Amo Jr., grew up in Ghana during J.J.Rawlings’ “tightened grip” and turbulent reign. His father fled to Germany and was granted political asylum there in 1988. The rest of the family reunited with their father five years later. Amo’s interest in music was ignited by Ghanaian highlife, and in Germany he embraced indie, pop, folk, blues, soul and more.
In the mid-2000s, Amo Jr. gigged under the moniker of Bursty Burst as a solo artist and later with a band, goig oni to collaborate with Y’akoto and Sammy Deluxe. After a five-year break from music to pursue an academic path, he returned with his folk EP Home in 2021. His explorative debut album Good Quality will be released in 2022.
