Albums Of The Week: Coldplay | Music Of The Spheres

Chris Martin & co. launch into the pop universe with Max Martin & a slate of ringers.

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE:Coldplay’s much-anticipated ninth album Music Of The Spheres was produced by studio mastermind Max Martin and features collaborations with K-pop superstars BTS, pop queen Selena Gomez, British singer-songwriter Jacob Collier and R&B duo We Are King. Five of the album’s tracks — including three suitably spacey instrumental vignettes — are titled with emojis.

The band announced the album on Instagram via a handwritten note alongside an album trailer which combined an animated cosmic journey through the album’s planetary artwork with short clips of the album’s 12 tracks. The band’s note also hinted at further sci-fi themes with the phrase ‘Everyone is an alien somewhere.’

In May, the band released Higher Power, the first single from Music Of The Spheres, followed by the 10-minute album track Coloratura.”
