Classic Album Review: Billy Idol | Greatest Hits

All the solo Idol fare you'll ever need or want — along with some stuff you don't.

This came out in 2001 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):


The good: This 16-track has all the solo Billy Idol you’ll ever want or need, from Dancing With Myself and Mony, Mony to Rebel Yell and White Wedding.

The bad: There’s nothing from Generation X, the bleached boy’s hard-rocking pre-stardom punk outfit. The ugly: Instead, there’s a bunch of late-period dreck like Sweet Sixteen, Cradle of Love and Shock to the System. The just plain weird: A “new recording” of Simple MindsDon’t You (Forget About Me). Well, OK. But it might help if he put out an album more than once a decade …
