Flaysher open the throttle and head for the border in their new single Ride — premiering exclusively on Tinnitist.
“This song is a solo adventure. It’s a clear mind. It’s a soothing breeze. It’s a breath of fresh air,” the Alberta country duo say of their latest single. “We wrote a song for anyone that feels the way we do when rolling the throttle on. Whether you ride motorbikes, pedal bikes, horses, or you’re riding shotgun in a smart car, hopefully you can relate in some way.”
Brothers Ryan and Brad Flaysher definitely can. “One night driving home from a long day of work, a left turn would take me home but I felt like I just had to keep going,” Brad says. “I kept going straight until I found myself in the Rockies. I felt my mind get quiet as I watched the full moon light up the mountains.” Adds Ryan: “What I love most about this tune is that it’s so honest and liberating. It’s a candid story of someone’s journey down the road towards self-actualization. The song came about very organically; we just gave it space to become what it was meant to be.”
Their own road to music was similar. Growing up in a blue-collar family, the brothers spent weekends and summers on their dad’s job sites, learning to work hard for what they wanted. On the way to work, they sang along to classics by Bob Seger, Bruce Springsteen, Eagles and Tim McGraw in the back of an old grey GMC truck. The music spoke to them and soon they felt a calling to tell their own stories through their own songs. After spending their teens in a rock band — and performing over 300 shows at everything from weddings and bars to parties of all sorts — the brothers found country music was where they felt most at home.
They spent most of 2019 writing new songs with fellow artists and friends from all over Alberta and down south in Nashville. Working with Juno-winning producer Matty McKay (Brett Kissel), Flaysher released their high-energy single Flat Broke Famous independently in March of 2020.
