Late-Night TV Music (Groovy Edition) | June 8, 2020

Benee & Gus Dapperton get into it as the talk shows take an upbeat turn.

Late-night TV is getting back in the groove. At least for the moment. After cancelling most of last week’s musical segments due to civil unrest down south, the talk shows brought back the tunes on Monday — and the mood they were going for was decidedly (if somewhat oddly) upbeat. Earth, Wind and Fire delivered their 1970s classic Devotion on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Jessie Ware cloned herself to perform Save a Kiss on The Late Late Show With James Corden. But the performance of the night has to go to New Zealand’s phenom Benee, who enlisted Gus Dapperton, her band and a very laid-back pooch for her TikTok triumph Supalonely. Sure, it’s silly fluff. But personally, I think we could all use a bit of silliness in our lives. At least for the moment.
