A couple of weeks ago, I watched Dweezil Zappa and his crack band play his dad Frank’s 1969 jazz-rock classic Hot Rats in its entirety. So it only makes sense that today — on the 50th anniversary of the album’s release — the Zappa Family Trust has announced that Hot Rats will be the next FZ title to get the box-set treatment. Due Dec. 20, The Hot Rats Sessions will be a six-disc set featuring rare and unedited mixes, work mixes, relevant vault nuggets and complete basic tracks mixed from the original multi-track master tapes. To whet your appetite, the Central Scrutinizer shared a mix outtake of It Must Be a Camel, which you can hear below. Want more Zappa? The previously announced four-disc box set Halloween 73, with two complete vintage Chicago shows, comes out Oct. 25. Talk about a treat. Of course, as always, umpteen more upcoming releases were also announced today. Scroll down to see all the latest additions, and head over to the Upcoming Releases page to scrutinize the whole damn list.
