Midnight Shine bring a timely new sound to a timeless classic with their cover of Neil Young‘s Heart of Gold — and they’re premiering the video for the song exclusively on Tinnitist.
The latest single from the band’s third album High Road honours the heart and soul of the original folk-rock standard while taking it in a distinctly different direction by incorporating wailing Indigenous vocals, a tom tom-heavy backbeat, slide guitar in the bridge and a verse sung in Mushkegowuk Cree.
Like their previous video for I Need Angels — which premiered here in November and became one of our most-watched videos of 2018 — the clip was shot last fall at singer-guitarist Adrian Sutherland‘s remote home of Attawapiskat First Nation. A production crew of three traveled to the isolated Cree community in Northern Ontario with 14 cases of gear and one ambitious plan: Shooting two music videos in five days. Getting the job done in only four, they used the extra day to shoot this spontaneous, homespun video.
