Classic Album Review: Marilyn Manson | Lest We Forget: Best Of

The Antichrist Superstar's so-called 'best of' does not live up to its billing.

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Two questions:

1) Should you really call your retrospective Lest We Forget when almost everybody already has?

2) Should you really call it a best-of set when it has four songs from your last dud of an album but doesn’t include Cake And Sodomy, Irresponsible Hate Anthem, I Don’t Like The Drugs (But the Drugs Like Me), Dope Hat, Antichrist Superstar or Mechanical Animals?

Sure, the slamming cover of Depeche Mode’s Personal Jesus is nice, but when you’re talking Manson’s covers, his searing take on Patti Smith’s Rock N Roll N—r kicks the tar out of Sweet Dreams and Tainted Love. As for this, you should forget about it. No question.
