This came out in 2005 — or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
There are two kinds of AC/DC fans: Those who prefer Bon Scott — and those who are wrong. Just kidding, Brian Johnson fans. But here’s something I’m not kidding about: No matter which version of AC/DC you dig, you’ll find plenty of it on their new two-DVD retrospective Family Jewels.
If you love the mischievous leer and raspy howl of ’70s singer Scott, Disc 1 delivers 20 classic clips, from early Australian TV appearances and smokin’ live footage — the fiery version of Sin City from a 1978 Midnight Special episode is worth the purchase price on its own — to a Spanish TV appearance taped 10 days before Scott drank himself to death in 1980.
If, on the other hand, you dig the workingman presence and gravel-throated wail of Johnson, Disc 2 has another 20 clips, mostly typically overproduced ’80s videos like You Shook Me All Night Long and Thunderstruck.
A bare-bones discography is the only bonus in the set. Well, that and the fact that there are no videos taped after 1990. After all, I don’t know any AC/DC fan who prefers that stuff.
