UBU pay final tribute to their visionary co-founder with a stylish and sophisticated self-titled album — showcasing today on Tinnitist.
The international artist collective’s latest release lovingly celebrates the life and work of Marco Trinchillo, a self-taught drummer and photographer who co-founded the band, but passed away at the age of 41 due to cardiac arrest while on the verge of completing the album’s final mix.
Produced in 2020 and 2021 by UBU and Franco Naddei at L’Amor Mio Non Muore studio in Forli, Italy, the 11-track project brings together artists from all walks of life who have been touched by Trinchillo’s far-reaching influence. His presence and impact are felt throughout the album’s tastefully understated grooves and artfully textured songcraft, which offers echoes over everyone from Radiohead and Massive Attack to Elliott Smith.
An umbrella term for all artists to create under, UBU brings together the musicians Hannah Saunders, FRNQ, Nicola Biondi, Pieralberto Valli, Hellis, Cleats, Luca Parma, Emma Perrot, Enzo Moretto, Francesca Amati and Pieralberto Valli, who each perform on the record.
While UBU now proudly boasts a wide roster of artists, it began life as a side project by Trinchillo and Mattia Mercuriali. Both were in the band Amycanbe, which found success in its own right with acclaimed albums, EPs, tours, and sync deals across film and TV. Looking to experiment with other musicians, Marco and Mattia founded UBU and began the process of making the self-titled album. While Trinchillo is gone, his work continues to inspire across music and the visual arts.
