GreenWing Have Had Enough – Almost

The Saskatchewan indie-rockers are down but not out on their defiant new single.

GreenWing know when to say enough is Enough on their cathartic new single — showcasing today on Tinnitist.

The latest high-voltage preview of the Saskatchewan indie-rockers’ upcoming sophomore album Eatin’ It, Enough delivers a powerful wallop of roiling midtempo punch and crunch. As the drums thunder and the guitars gnash, the prairie quartet unspooling a rousing anthem for anyone who’s ever found themselves caught in a downward spiral of self-destruction — and kept clinging to one bright point of light in the darkness:

“Caught up in familiar patterns
Staring down a rabbit hole
I’ve overcommitted my schedule
And I haven’t seen you since god knows
I stopped running and watching my diet
My social life is at an all time low
The days are shorter and I’m feeling weaker
When I see the deadlines on my phone
Yeah I, I’ve had enough
But trust, I haven’t given up
I, I’ve had enough
But trust, I haven’t given up
On you.”

Enough is a song that tackles the inherent uncertainty that comes hand in hand with a sophomore release and the feelings of fear and insecurity that come when deviating away from a path that has proven successful in the past. While musing on feelings of uncertainty and fear, singer Matt Stinn’s lyrics are framed by ambient verses full of tension provided by drummer Kolt Kimbley and bassist Travis Williams. As tension builds, the verses rise and give way to a chorus accentuated by the one-two punch of hammering guitars from Stinn and Anhony Allegretto. The defiant refrain echoes in a sense of triumph, as the song turns full circle on its verses that were painted in self-doubt to accept the fact that staying the course isn’t also the best option.
