Classic Album Review: Soil | El Chupacabra

The Chicago rockers seem like they're angling for a death match with Rob Zombie.

This came out in 1999 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Remember those old monster-battle chiller-thrillers like Godzilla Vs. Megalon? Well, Chicago quintet Soil’s El Chupacabra — aka Goatsucker — sounds like they’re angling for a celebrity death match with kindred spirit Rob Zombie.

RZ might gets points for style and shock value, but Soil definitely match him blow-for-blow with crunchy rubber riffs and evil incantations. And they definitely have the piledriver in their repertoire. The winner? Let’s call it a draw and wait for the rematch.
